I have two classes that are making a ship for their exhibition coming at the end of October. We made the ship armature out of wire and branches then we made a paste (flour and water) to glue the newspaper strips around the inside and out.
It's been a blast! "This is the best feeling ever, the best time of my life", my students would say. When I was younger paper machie was one of my favorite ways to make a sculpture. I'm so glad I've been able to share it with others.
We have great plans for our ship, which may look a little ship wreaked at the moment. Later after she is dry and painted she will hang in the Gallery space with our rag dolls and maybe sail off to "fairy land" says, my five year old student Lily.
Thanks to the Moms and Grandmas who helped build our ship. It's been so much fun with the Artstart classes. If you have any ideas for future projects please leave a comment or email them to me at arthousenoblesville@hotmail.com

Rag Dolls
I love rag dolls. I've been making them with my daughter since she was 4. Today our Art Start class (9 little girls) created their own dolls. They rummaged through my scrap fabric and buttons.
I had sewn and stuffed all of the dolls before class, so the kids could focus on decorating and creating their unique image.
We had a few accidental pokes, but for a class of nine it's to be expected.
I'm inspired by these little artists and am proud to have them in my class. I can't wait until next week when we can work on our group project! Oh, and for all of you who are interested in seeing all these creations in person, the student show is scheduled for the last week of October.
Another successful class full of fiber art fun!

More exciting pictures of little creations
Everyday there is a little more joy in my life because I can share an art space with parents and children that want to learn and grow visually. It's amazing how rewarding it can be to mix two colors together for the first time. I had a 5 year old today mix red and blue together to discover it makes purple, "It makes purple" she said in amazement. That's life, discovery and education through experience! These fall classes are going to be full of new things. Come stop in and see what we are creating!

Sneak peak inside the Classroom
Our Fall classes have begun, but don't worry-- your not too late, you can still sign up. We have a few spots left in each class.
This week has been a blast, thanks to all our art students and their limitless imaginations! Here is a sneak peak inside the Junior/Youth Drawing and Painting class. They made continuous line drawings on the wall with string and later filled them in with paint. They also made charcoal line drawings and used pastels to add color and value. I apologize to any of the parents who find drawings on their walls in the future, I forgot to tell them not to try it at home. It's just too much fun...
